Love is a battlefield

I realize I haven’t been treating love as a battlefield so it is no wonder it has always defeated me. I move forward with an insatiable hunger for victory. My strategy? Know what I am fighting for, never lower my standards, trust my instincts and most importantly never surrender. My advice to myself, and my advice to all: love, learn and love again.

If there is anything I like more than winning it is looking fantastic while winning so I picked out some battle gear.

My Battle Gear

Neons and Brights

Once again it’s time to add more color to our outfits. I went bold with a bright orange blazer and a red dress but it only takes a splash so a scarf or watch will do.

No matter what your take on the trend, you only have to remember one thing… the brighter the better!

Monday Must-Haves for 5.21.12

Warmer weather means clean and cool white accessories. I am a huge fan of white that can transition into winter but sometimes you just want something that screams, “I need a margarita or ten!”

It’s Still a Happy New Year!!!

I still love you 2012!

The holidays were so busy I didn’t even have time to wish everyone  a happy New Year from Deelightville. Happy New Year! I look forward to sharing more stories more often this year.

Clearly January flew by and I have to say it has not been all fun and games.  I was in a car accident, had a bit of a  breakdown at work (slightly Taylor from RHBH style), cannot stop eating sugar and have not stopped buying clothes on my credit card. Yikes!

Even though some things still feel like my not so pleasant 2011, my outlook on life is definitely more positive. I thought it back on 12.31.2011 and I still think it: 2012 is going to be a great year and there are many reasons why.

  • I met a really nice boy who likes to do the same things I do.
  • I now have two gym memberships and a cute gym bag. If I use them (and stop eating sugar for the love of God) I will be wearing a bikini every day of summer even under my work clothes.
  • I forgave myself for all the mistakes of my past and will forgive all the mistakes I have yet to make and I don’t care whether or not I forgive anyone else. I am not Jesus. If I don’t want to forgive someone I don’t have to. I am not going to hold a grudge because I really think that causes wrinkles but if someone is a stinker that is just what I am going to think they are, period.  Okay, now I forgive myself for not being more forgiving of others. Feels great!
  • I am embracing the fact that I have created a world for myself that is black and white and the only gray area I feel comfortable with is my nail polish.
  • I can now accept that I won’t be prim and proper all the time, most of the time, okay any of the time but I will wear enough lace, ruffles and bows to at least look the part.
  • I have reconnected with friend’s who are actually as good a friend to me as I am to them.
  • I purchased Tetris for my phone so every time I am on public transportation I zone out completely. Was that a stinky hobo? Couldn’t tell ya.

It’s okay 2012 is off to a rough start. It’s even okay if there are a couple of rough patches ahead.  I am a firm believer of mind over matter: as long as I have my mind straight nothing else matters. So let’s think positive and have a fantastic year because there is absolutely no reason not to!

Happy New Year! Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Dig Deep For Your Fashion Courage

When it comes to fashion is the only thing separating courageous from crazy fame, or does it take a little crazy to be courageous? The world may never know. We have all seen celebrities wear outfits that make us wonder if they looked in a mirror and most of us have seen wild fashion in our neighborhoods. We will never forget Bjork’s swan dress and I will never forget the Scottish villain I saw in the Richmond district.

I don’t know if the pictures do his outfit and mustache justice but my friend Jessica did the best she could. We aren’t the paparazzi after all. Anyways, we thought his outfit was bizarre and hysterical and totally worth taking a pic of for later amusement. Only after I sat down to write up a fashion don’t post did I make the decision that kilt guy is fine just the way he is.  It is probably the same thing John Galliano would wear to pick up his dim sum.

Personally I tend to play it safe but I need to start shaking it up. I am not going to make a pigeon skirt or anything like that but trying out a new trend that scares me is a good start. I am seeing a maxi skirt at work or in the evening in my future. Yes that sounds harmless but it horrifies me. I am short and I have a short torso so maxi anything takes guts.

Let’s go for it. Spice up your wardrobe or wear some things you already have in a brand new way. If you don’t create a masterpiece but still hold your head up high despite the stares and snickers then fame might be in your future. Or you just might create the next trend we will all be following. Fashion is not about being safe; it’s about being memorable.

Don’t Mistake The Mixed Prints Trend As Fashion Mayhem

I was at Macy’s last week helping a co-worker pick out a hat when a woman, who had no idea what she was talking about, interjected her opinion. She thought she could give advice on which hat to pair with a dress she had never seen. When I protested she repeated over and over again “read Vogue, there are no rules anymore.” I tried to correct her but she just kept repeating that line over and over. Hello! Check out Glamour’s Dos and Don’ts page. Not everything works well together.

At first I was angry and then my heart turned cold. Is that what is happening out there? People actually believe the mixed prints and colors thoughtfully used to style models and actresses in the fashion magazines are actually just blindly and haphazardly thrown together. Mixing prints is not a new concept but I think this is the first time so many people outside of the fashion industry are taking a stab at it. Looking around San Francisco it is clear people are misinterpreting this trend. I am seeing is fashion chaos and it makes be feel sad, scared and alone. I embrace this trend but I am not so foolish as to believe there are no rules. When it comes to mixing prints it is important to keep in mind the size of the print, the color story, and the proportion of one print to the other.
